SafeAlt is a self-contained Portable Altimeter/VSI designed to increase safety for both pilots and passengers.
We've added an automatic computation of Density Altitude to evaluate the effects of altitude and heat on takeoff performance.
The new Density Altitude feature (July 2025) provides pilots with information that is critical for safe takeoffs, especially at higher altitudes and on hot days. A temperature sensor within the unit is used in conjunction with internally determined pressure altitude, thus providing Density Altitude.
With altimeter, VSI, and now Density Altitude, SafeAlt provides valuable information for pilots. It runs for hours on an internal USB chargeable battery and uses an extraordinarily accurate solid-state pressure sensor. It can be recharged from any USB port. At $99.95, it is very affordable. In addition to Density Altitude, it improves safety in these scenarios:
- For general aviation pilots, it provides a backup to panel-mounted altimeters and VSI gauges in an easy to use, USB rechargeable, portable device.
- For corporate pilots in pressurized aircraft, it provides a visual and aural alarm if cabin depressurization occurs. This might save lives.
- For passengers on commercial aircraft, it provides a visual and aural alarm if cabin altitude slowly exceeds a set value (indicating a failure of the aircraft to pressurize) or if rapid decompression occurs (also indicating a pressure failure). Furthermore, it reads pressure altitude within the cabin, which is a proxy for flying comfort. The latest commercial aircraft designs have better, or lower, pressure altitude while flying.

SafeAlt runs for hours off an internal USB chargeable battery and uses an extraordinarily accurate solid-state pressure sensor. It is reasonably priced at $99.95 MSRP.
SafeAlt is a self-contained, portable device. The altitude sensor is internal and uses ultra-reliable MEMS technology. A USB charging port and switch are on the side. Buttons on the bottom can be used to exactly match the local pressure setting but aren’t needed for tracking cabin pressure inside an aircraft.
Of course, it is also an excellent backup to panel-based altimeters and VSI gauges for any general aviation pilot. An optional Adapter Ring is available for mounting in a 3 1/8” standard panel cutout.
